The old district court is a building in Darmstadt .

Architecture and history

The old district court was built between 1903 and 1905 according to plans by the architects Karl Hofmann and Wilhelm Thaler . The courthouse surrounds two small courtyards . A glass- covered inner courtyard forms the three-storey vestibule . From the vestibule of the rooms are in the two upper floors with circumferential arch - arcades opened. The steps and the railing of the vestibule are made of light-colored stone ; likewise the two figures above the first landing . A clock with a baroque frame is located above the arch to the entrance portal . A marble wall fountain was set into the southern arcade wall . Red sandstone was used to structure the outer facade , as well as for the pilaster strips , the window frames , the cornice and the central projectile on the north side, and the pilasters and the roofing of the entrance portal on the west side. Red sandstone was also used to structure the closed bridge over the street leading to the district court building opposite .

The structure was largely destroyed in an air raid in 1944. In the post-war period , the main parts of the building were rebuilt true to the original. However, instead of the mansard roof , the district court received a single storey addition . The flat sloping slate roof rests on the cornice .

Monument protection

For architectural and city history reasons, the building is a cultural monument .
