Alto Jequitibá , officially Portuguese Município de Alto Jequitibá , is a small Brazilian town in the state of Minas Gerais in the Sudeste region (southeast). The place is 322 km away from the capital Belo Horizonte . As of July 1, 2018, the population was estimated at 8333 inhabitants, who are called Jequitibaenser (Portuguese jequitibaenses ). The community area was given in 2017 as around 152.3 km².
On September 7, 1923, the district Distrito de Presidente Soares was founded within the municipality of Manhumirim , the small associated village was called Vila de Presidente Soares , named after the former governor Raul Soares de Moura . This place had only 1396 inhabitants in 1950. The district became an independent city on December 12, 1953 and spun off from Manhumirim. On October 21, 1991 the parish was renamed Alto Jequitibá and since 1993 has consisted of the two Distrito de Alto Jequitibá and Distrito de Padre Julio Maria .
You come through the small town on the way to the western entrance of the Caparaó National Park at an altitude of 645 meters above sea level.
Surrounding places are Manhumirim, Caparaó , Alto Caparaó , Luisburgo and Iúna .
