Alwar ( Hindi : अलवर जिला; formerly Ulwar ) is a district in the western Indian state of Rajasthan .
The district is located in the northeast of Rajasthan, about 100 km south-southwest of the federal capital New Delhi . The area is 8380 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name, Alwar . In the south-western part of the district is the Sariska National Park .
The population in the 2011 census was 3,674,179, 10 years earlier it was 2,992,592. The gender ratio was 895 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 70.72% (85.75% for men, 56.25% for women). 82.72 % of the population were Hindu , 14.90% Muslim , 1.76% Sikhs .
