Sri Ganganagar ( Hindi : ज़िला श्रीगंगानगर) is a district in the western Indian state of Rajasthan .

The district lies on the border with Pakistan in the northwest of Rajasthan and lies in the Thar desert . The area is 10,978 km². The administrative seat is the city of Sri Ganganagar .

population

The population was 1,969,168 in the 2011 census, 10 years earlier it was 1,789,423. The gender ratio was 887 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 69.64% (78.50% for men, 59.70% for women). 72.98% of the population were followers of Hinduism , 24.11% Sikhs and 2.57% Muslims .
