Churu ( Hindi : चुरू जिला) is a district in the western Indian state of Rajasthan .
The district is located in the Thar Desert in northern Rajasthan. Before India's independence in 1947, the area was part of the princely state of Bikaner . The Churu District was founded in 1948 and initially had the three Tehsils Churu , Rajgarh and Tarangar . The area is 13,835 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Churu .
