Amara Karan (* 1984 in London ) is a British actress .

Life and career

Karan is the daughter of Tamil - Sri Lankan parents who emigrated to England from Zambia two years before the birth of their daughter . She grew up in the London borough of Wimbledon , where she attended the all-girls school, Wimbledon High School .

She then completed a degree in economics and political science at Oxford and worked as an investment banker after graduating . During her studies at St Catherine's College at the University of Oxford , she starred in several plays and got her first honorable mentions from the critics. She also directed a short film in which she starred, for which she wrote the book and which she produced herself. The film took second place in a short film competition.

During her apprenticeship as an actress, she was cast in the film Darjeeling Limited , where she played her first film role alongside Owen Wilson and Oscar winner Adrien Brody . Her portrayal of the train attendant Rita was praised by Time and Variety , among others .

Karan's second film role was in the English film The Girls of St. Trinian .
