American Stars' n Bars is the eighth studio album by Neil Young , released 1977th The collaboration with Crazy Horse includes the well-known song Like a Hurricane .

Cover

The album cover was designed by Young's friend Dean Stockwell , an actor. It shows the drunk Neil Young, his face pressed against a pane of glass, and a woman with a bottle of Canadian whiskey in her hand. The cover is a corruption of the American stars and bars .

General

The tracks on the album were recorded between November 1974 and April 1977 and are listed according to when they were written. The earliest recordings such as Star of Bethlehem were originally intended for the 1975 planned but unreleased album Homegrown . In 1976 Neil Young recorded the song Will to Love on a tape recorder in front of his fireplace; the crackling of the fire can be clearly heard. Further instruments were mixed in in the studio.
