Amir Ohana (* 15. March 1976 in Be'er Sheva , grew up in Rishon LeZion ) is an Israeli politician of the party Likud . He has been Minister of Justice in the Netanyahu IV cabinet since June 2019 and has been Minister of Public Security in the Netanyahu V cabinet since May 17, 2020 .

Life

Ohana studied law and works as a lawyer in Israel. In December 2015 he moved to the Knesset as a member of parliament after the previous interior minister and member of parliament, Silvan Shalom, gave up his offices. In the parliamentary elections in March 2020 , he was re-elected as a member of the Knesset. After Ayelet Shaked was sacked as Justice Minister in early June 2019, Ohana was named her successor. This makes him the first openly gay minister in Israel's history. He is also involved in the homosexual movement in Israel , including "Likud Pride", the group of queer Likud members.

Ohana lives in Tel Aviv with his partner Alon Hadad . The couple have two surrogate children.
