Amphoe Mueang Amnat Charoen ( Thai อำเภอ เมือง อำนาจเจริญ ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Amnat Charoen . The province of Amnat Charoen is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

geography

Amnat Charoen is located in the far east of Isaan on the border with Laos and is about 580 kilometers from Bangkok . Neighboring districts (clockwise from north): the Amphoe Senangkhanikhom , Pathum Ratchawongsa , Phana , Lue Amnat and Hua Taphan of the province of Amnat Charoen and the Amphoe Pa Tio and Thai Charoen of the province of Yasothon .

The district is crossed by two expressways:

  • Expressway 212: north-south crossing, connects the district of Mueang Amnat Charoen with Laos and Nakhon Phanom in the north and Ubon Ratchathani in the south
  • Expressway 202: east-west crossing, connects Mueang Amnat Charoen with Yasothon in the west and Khemarat in the east.

history

Amnat Charoen received under King Rama III. the status of a city ( Mueang ) and was initially administered by Nakhon Khemarat. During the Thesaphiban administrative reform, Amnat Charoen Ubon Ratchathani was subordinated and converted into a district. It was later named Bung , after the central tambon . In 1939 the name was changed back to Amnat Charoen. When the new province of Amnat Charoen was created on January 12, 1993, the district was given the current name of Mueang Amnat Charoen.
