Amphoe Phran Kratai ( Thai : อำเภอ พรานกระต่าย ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the north of the Kamphaeng Phet Province in the northern region of Thailand .

Amphoe Phran Kratai is delimited from the southeast by the following amphoe: Lan Krabue , Sai Ngam , Mueang Kamphaeng Phet , Kosamphi Nakhon in the province of Kamphaeng Phet, Amphoe Mueang Tak in the province of Tak and Ban Dan Lan Hoi and Khiri Mat in the province Sukhothai .
history
Amphoe Phran Kratai was founded in 1895.
The name goes back to a certificate from the period of the Kingdom of Sukhothai local legend, by a hunter ( พราน - Phran ) and a hare ( กระต่าย - Kratai is). The hunter surveyed the area south of Sukhothai to find a strategic location for a border town. He spent the night in the area of what is now Amphoe Phran Kratai, where he saw a hare with golden fur in front of a cave, which however quickly withdrew. The hunter reported the incident to the king of Sukhothai and volunteered to track down and catch the hare. Although he set up a small settlement in front of the cave, he could not catch the hare. Later, more and more people found their way into the settlement and named it Ban Phran Kratai after the hunter .

There are four municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:
- Khao Khirit (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เขา คี ริ ส ) consisting of the complete tambon Khao Khirit.
- Phran Kratai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล พรานกระต่าย ) consisting of the parts of the Tambon Phran Kratai, Tham Kratai Thong.
- Khlong Phikrai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล คลอง พิ ไกร ) consisting of the complete tambon Khlong Phikrai.
- Ban Phran (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน พราน ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Phran Kratai.
In addition, there are seven " Tambon Administration Organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)
- Nong Hua Wua (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล หนอง หัว วัว ) consisting of the complete tambon Nong Hua Wua.
- Tha Mai (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ท่า ไม้ ) consisting of the complete Tambon Tha Mai.
- Wang Khuang (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล วัง ควง ) consisting of the complete tambon Wang Khuang.
- Wang Tabaek (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล วัง ตะแบก ) consisting of the complete tambon Wang Tabaek.
- Khui Ban Ong (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล คุย บ้าน โอ ง ) consisting of the complete tambon Khui Ban Ong.
- Tham Kratai Thong (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ถ้ำ กระต่าย ทอง ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Tham Kratai Thong.
- Huai Yang (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ห้วย ยั้ง ) consisting of the complete tambon Huai Yang.
