Amphoe Phu Luang ( Thai : อำเภอ ภู หลวง , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː pʰūː lǔaŋ ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Loei . The province of Loei is located in the northwestern part of the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

Neighboring counties and areas are (clockwise from the south): Amphoe Nam Nao in Phetchabun Province , and Phu Ruea , Wang Saphung , Nong Hin and Phu Kradueng Province in Loei Province.

In the north-west of the district lies the plateau of the Phu Luang Mountain, which gave the district its name. It is now protected as a Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary . The Namtok Huai Lao Forest Park is located in Tambon Kaeng Si Phum, an area of ​​3.4 km² around the Huai Lao waterfall.

history

Phu Luang was initially set up as a “branch circle” ( King Amphoe ) on November 28, 1980 , by separating the two tambon Phu Ho and Nong Khan from the Wang Saphung district . It was promoted to Amphoe on May 9, 1992.
