Amphoe Suan Phueng ( Thai : อำเภอ สวนผึ้ง ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in Ratchaburi Province . The Ratchaburi Province is located in the central region of Thailand .

etymology

The name Suan Phueng (literally bee garden ) comes from an occurrence of Phueng trees ( Liang Phueng , Thai: เลียง ผึ้ง , Ficus albipila ), which grow in many places in this area. The bees like to build their nests in these trees.

Neighboring counties (clockwise from north): Amphoe Mueang Kanchanaburi and Dan Makham Tia of Kanchanaburi Province , Amphoe Chom Bueng and Ban Kha of Ratchaburi Province. To the west lies the Tanintharyi Division of Myanmar .

The main water resource is the Mae Nam Phachi (Phachi River) .

In Pong Yup (Tambon Tha Khoei) there is an area with jagged, crater-like soil formations that are reminiscent of a small canyon .

history

Suan Phueng was a rural area in Chom Bueng County ( Amphoe ) . In 1968–1971 the government sent a group of soldiers here to promote development. Later, on November 15, 1974, a "branch circle" ( King Amphoe ) was established here, consisting of the three tambon Suan Phueng, Pa Wai and Ban Bueng. On April 1, 1983, it was upgraded to a fully authorized Amphoe.

economy

In 1901, the Siamese government issued the first prospecting permit for tin mining in Suan Phueng. During World War I, most of the mines were closed due to the global depression. Mining resumed in the 1950s until the last prospecting concession was withdrawn in 1991.

Attractions

In the north-west of the district near the border with Myanmar there is a long valley, here are some sights:

• The Bo Khlueng Hot Stream (Thai: ธาร น้ำ ร้อน บ่อ คลึง ) is located about 15 km from the county seat. A narrow stream of hot, mineral-rich water has its source in the Tanaosri Mountains ( เทือกเขา ตะนาว ศรี ). It has a temperature of around 50–68 ° C all year round.
• Kao Chan Waterfall (Thai: น้ำตก เก้า ชั้น ) - not far from Bo Khlung is the nine-step waterfall .

There are two municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

• Ban Chat Pa Wai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน ชัฏ ป่า หวาย ) consisting of the parts of the Tambon Pa Wai, Tha Khoei.
• Suan Phueng (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สวนผึ้ง ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Suan Phueng.

There are also four " tambon administration organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)

• Suan Phueng (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล สวนผึ้ง ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Suan Phueng.
• Pa Wai (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ป่า หวาย ) consisting of parts of the tambon Pa Wai.
• Tha Khoei (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ท่า เคย ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Tha Khoei.
• Tanao Si (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ตะนาว ศรี ) consisting of the complete tambon Tanao Si.
