Anand ( Hindi : आनंद , Ānand ; Urdu : آنند) is a successful 1971 Hindi film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee .

Anand Saigal is a cancer patient. Despite this diagnosis, he is enjoying life to the full. On the other hand, Bhaskar Banerjee, Anand's doctor, is dissatisfied with his life and also dismayed by the harsh reality.
But Anand teaches him to enjoy the good things in life and to discover the good behind everything bad.
However, having spread all the joy and changing the lives of many for the better, Anand cannot influence fate. Anand dies and inspires Bhaskar to write a book about Anand's life. He describes his life before Anand's meeting, their first meeting, how the relationship between doctor and patient turns into a close friendship and about the strength of a weak man who could not conquer his illness but win everyone's hearts. For Bhaskar's debut novel Anand , he received the “Saraswati Award”.
