Anatoly Michailowitsch Schalagin

Anatoly Michailowitsch Schalagin ( Russian Анатолий Михайлович Шалагин ; born July 5, 1943 in Komsomolsk am Amur ) is a Russian physicist and university professor .

Life

Schalagin studied at the physics faculty of the Novosibirsk State University (NGU) with graduation in 1965. He then worked in Krasnoyarsk in the Siberian Technological Institute. In 1966 he moved to the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Department (SO) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)) in the Novosibirsk Academgorodok and then to the Siberian Research Institute for Geology, Geophysics there and mineral raw materials.

From 1971 to 1973 he graduated from the postgraduate at the Novosibirsk Institute of Nuclear Physics of the AN SSSR SO. He then worked in the Institute of Spectroscopy of the AN-SSSR in Moscow - Troitsk .

From 1977, Schalagin worked as a research assistant in the Novosibirsk Institute for Automation and Electrometry of the SO of the AN-SSSR. In 1989 he became head of the laboratory there. In 1991 he was elected a corresponding member of the RAN. In 2003 he became director of the institute.

Schalagin's main research areas were quantum optics , nonlinear spectroscopy and laser quantum electronics . He investigated the interaction of laser radiation and gases . He was a pioneer of high-resolution spectroscopy while avoiding line broadening . He developed a theory of nonlinear resonances taking relaxation processes into account . Together with his group, he theoretically and experimentally investigated the population inversion of energy levels during the non-resonant absorption of intense laser radiation.

In addition to research, Schalagin taught at the NGU. In 2002 he became head of the chair for quantum optics. In 2011, Schalagin was elected a full member of RAN. He is the author or co-author of a large number of publications. His stag index is 22.
