András Takács

András Takács (born July 3, 1945 in Budapest ; † May 12, 2015 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian cyclist and national cycling champion .

Athletic career

Takács took part in the Summer Olympics three times . In 1968 in Mexico City he was 58th in the road race and 17th in the team time trial , in 1972 in Munich he finished 23rd in the individual race , the Hungarian foursome was sixth. In 1980 in Moscow he finished 28th in the road race . He was 17 with the team .

He drove the Internationale Friedensfahrt four times, the 19th place in 1972 was his best result in the overall individual classification. In 1972 he won the first stage.

In 1969 he won ahead of Karl-Heinz Miersch with the Mescek Cup, an internationally strong stage race in Hungary.

Takács was a member of the Hungarian national team for many years and did almost all major tours for amateurs in Europe . In 1969 he finished second in the Yugoslavia Tour behind Joop Zoetemelk .

Between 1976 and 1985 he won a total of 24 Hungarian championship titles in various road cycling disciplines . From 1966 to 1971, 1973 to 1976 and 1978 he won the championship in the individual time trial . In 1968 and 1975 he won the road racing championship . In 1973 he won the team time trial title (as in 1974) and the pair time trial . He won the mountain driving title in 1980 and 1981. There was also a title in the cyclo-cross race in 1974 and a title on the track in the single pursuit .

He started for the clubs Előre SC (1966–1968) and BKV Előre SC (1969–1985).
