Andre Bernard Gurode (* 5. March 1978 in Houston , Texas ) is a former American American football poker players on the positions of the guards and centers .

Player career

College career

The athletic guru played American football in high school in his hometown. After graduating from high school, he studied at the University of Colorado at Boulder and played American football for the Colorado Buffalos . With his team he moved into two bowl games . In 1999 the Buffalos won the Inside.Com Bowl against Boston College with 62:28. In 2002 the Fiesta Bowl was lost to the University of Oregon at 16:38 . Gurode suffered a knee injury in the game. However, after he was bandaged, he continued the game. By the time he started his professional career, he had fully recovered from his injury.

Profile career

In the 2002 NFL Draft , Gurode was selected 37th by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round. In his first year he was employed by the team's head coach , Dave Campo , as a starter at the center , but had to change to the position of a guard in 2003 . From 2006 Gurode played permanently as the center of quarterback Tony Romo .

Gurode developed into an extremely tough player. On the third day of the 2006 season Gurode was injured in a game against the Tennessee Titans by his opponent Albert Haynesworth by a kick in the head. The wound caused by the Haynesworth tunnels had to be sutured with 30 stitches. Nevertheless, Gurode was back as a starter a week later. Haynesworth received a dismissal and a four-game suspension.

In 2006 Gurode's contract was initially extended by one year. In 2007 he received a six-year contract with a salary of 30 million US dollars from Jerry Jones , the team owner of the Cowboys . Gurode has participated in charitable activities of his team several times in the past few years.

For the 2011 season he was fired from Dallas because his salary exceeded the team's limit and there was no agreement on a lower income for the pro-bowler . Gurode then played for the Baltimore Ravens for a year .

After the Chicago Bears lost their two guards in the game against the Minnesota Vikings in 2012 , Gurode signed a contract there. However, he was released after a short time.

In 2013 he signed with the Oakland Raiders and played there until the end of the season.

Honors

From 2006 to 2010 Gurode played in the Pro Bowl , the season final game of the best players in a game round.
