Andreas Böhlen (musician)
Andreas Böhlen (* 1983 ) is a German musician ( recorder , saxophone ) who has made a name for himself in both classical music and jazz .
Live and act
Böhlen, who grew up in northern Germany, initially received recorder lessons from Adele Weikelt. Since 1991 he has been studying with Ulrike Petritzki at the University of the Arts in Bremen . In 2001 he switched to Günther Höller and Dorothee Oberlinger as a young student at the Cologne University of Music and Dance ; During this time he won several prizes in Jugend musiziert and (on the saxophone) in Jugend jazz . Between 2003 and 2007 he studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Walter van Hauwe and Paul Leenhouts . He received his bachelor's degree with distinction. From 2003 to 2007 he studied jazz saxophone at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Jasper Blom , Ferdinand Povel and Dick Oatts . Until 2008 he was part of the Bujazzo .
After studying musicology in Bologna between 2007 and 2008, Böhlen moved to Basel, where he completed a master's degree in historical improvisation with Rudolf Lutz at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with distinction. In 2011 he completed a master’s degree in jazz saxophone with Domenic Landolf at the Basel Music Academy .
In 2003, Böhlen founded Theatrum Affectuum, the first chamber music group in the field of early music , with which he released several albums. The Satyr's Band was formed in a different line-up, juxtaposing compositions from the 17th century with his own works, while he was active in jazz with the Andreas Böhlen Band (debut album 2012) and the microtonal music group Crank . In the Trio Airborne (with percussionist Tobias Guttmann and violinist Geeta Abad) he interprets new music and has released works by Peter Eötvös , Donald Bousted , SS Smith and Wolfram Graf on record. He can also be heard on albums by Johannes Maikranz , Sarah Chaksad , Jonas Windscheid / Paintbox , his brother Sebastian Böhlen , the Barockorchester Capriccio Basel and the ensemble arcimboldo .
Böhlen teaches recorder at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz . Since 2017 he has been teaching recorder as a major at the Zurich University of the Arts . He also curates the Spiegelungen Alte Musik / Jazz festival at the bird's eye jazz club in Basel .
