Conservatorium van Amsterdam
The Conservatory of Amsterdam ( Dutch Conservatorium van Amsterdam ) is the music academy of Amsterdam and as such part of the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten .
history
It emerged from the merger of several previous schools. The Amsterdamsch Conservatorium founded in 1884 by the composers Julius Röntgen , Frans Coenen and Daniel de Lange , the Conservatorium van de Vereniging Muzieklyceum founded in 1920 and the Haarlems Muzieklyceum merged in 1976 to form the Sweelinck Conservatorium . This merged in 1994 with the Hilversums Conservatorium to form today's Amsterdam Conservatory . For a long time it was housed in the former building of the Reichspostsparbank Dutch Rijkspostspaarbank in the Van Baerlestraat in Amsterdam. At the end of 2008 it moved to a new building in the Amsterdam-Centrum district (district: Oosterdokseiland, on the Oosterdokskade) near the Amsterdam Centraal train station , near the public library (ABO) and the Nemo science museum . The new building comprises three concert halls ( Bernard Haitink Hall with 400 seats, Sweelinck Hall with 120 seats, Amsterdam Blue Note for Pop / Jazz with 200 seats) and a theater studio (50 seats). The architect of the building is Frits van Dongen.
