Andreas Digeser

Andreas Digeser (born July 13, 1925 in Breslau ; † October 16, 2010 in Florida ) was a German literary scholar and foreign language didactician. He was professor of English with a focus on linguistics , English and American literature and foreign language didactics at the Freiburg University of Education .

Life

In 1946 Digeser graduated from high school in Wangen im Allgäu . From 1947 to 1953 he studied English , Romance studies and German studies at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg im Breisgau and at the Université de Franche-Comté in Besançon . In 1953 he passed the 1st state examination at the University of Freiburg , and in 1955 the 2nd state examination. In 1954 he received his doctorate in English and German in Freiburg. phil. PhD . From 1955 to 1965 he was a senior teacher at the Schopfheim grammar school . In 1965 he was appointed professor of English at the Freiburg University of Education . From 1966 he built up the subjects English and French at the Lörrach University of Education and worked there as a university professor for both subjects until 1984. After the PH Lörrach was dissolved in 1984, he returned to the PH Freiburg. In between he was visiting professor at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro (USA) in 1983 and at Stetson University in DeLand , Florida (USA) in 1990 . Digeser had been retired since 1990.

Research priorities

Digeser's main research interests were grammar theory , grammar (especially syntax ), pragmalinguistics , psycholinguistics , phonetics and phonology , orthography , foreign language teaching and learning research and foreign language didactics as well as literary studies with a focus on English and American literature. In addition, Digeser has been involved in the discussion about upper and lower case in German for years.
