Andreas Frantz Pega

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreas Frantz Pega (also Andreas Franz Pega ; Andreas / Andres Pega ; Andreas Franciscus Pega ; * in Koethen , † after 1702) was a publisher and printer in Glatz . In 1699 he opened an off- press in Breslau , where he was appointed episcopal court printer.

Life

Andreas Frantz Pega is recorded for the years 1682 to 1702 in Glatz, the capital of the County of Glatz , which at that time was a subsidiary of the Bohemian Crown , and from 1699 in Wroclaw. Since 1682 he published numerous book prints in Glatz. The publishing program was shaped by the Counter Reformation , which was closely followed by the Glatzer Jesuit College . At the same time, the Jesuits promoted the publication of writings for the veneration of St. Maria the Marian pilgrimage, especially at the Glatzer parish church Mariä Himmelfahrt , in Albendorf , Wartha and Altwilmsdorf .

Well-known authors of Andreas Frantz Pega's publishing house were the Jesuit Vitus Scheffer , the Grüssau abbot Bernhard Rosa and Johannes Scheffler, who was sponsored by him and who, after converting to Catholicism in 1653, took the first name “Angelus” and became a well-known Baroque writer as Angelus Silesius . He published the first part of his works in the years 1664 to 1677 in the publishing house of Ignaz Konstantin Schubart in Neisse . After Schubart relocated his printing works to Glatz around 1678, where Andreas Frantz Pega also started his activity in 1682, Glatz became a center of Catholic letterpress printing in Bohemia and Silesia . On January 17, 1682 Andreas Frantz Pega was married in Grüssau by Abbot Bernhard Rosa to the widow of the Glatzer book printer Matthäus Ehrnt.

In 1699 Andreas Frantz Pega opened an office in Wroclaw after he had been called there by the cathedral chapter and appointed court printer by Bishop Franz Ludwig von der Pfalz . Although he transferred the Glatzer printing house to his son-in-law Kaspar Rudolf Müller, he remained the owner until 1702. After further changes of ownership, the printing works came to Franz Pompejus in 1790 . It is not known when and where Andreas Frantz Pega died.
