Andreas Herber (* around 1530 ; buried on 12. May 1614 in Kassel ) was a sculptor , carver , Steinmetz and modelers of the late Renaissance . He belonged to the Hessian sculptor dynasty Herber.

Life

Andreas Herber was a descendant of Johann Herber, who was employed by the Hessian Landgrave Ludwig I as a master craftsman and carpenter in 1463 . In 1551, Andreas Herber was first mentioned in a document as a carver. From the first of his three child marriages, there were two sons who worked in his workshop. Antonius Herber (* 1588; buried October 24, 1635) and Jorge Herber (* baptized October 18, 1565; buried on July 1, 1611) were close collaborators in Andreas Herber's artist workshop. Andreas Herber died in Kassel, where he was buried on May 12, 1614.

Works

Andreas Herber created numerous grave monuments . The grave monuments in the Netzer St. Nicolaus Chapel were marked with the signature Andreas Herber, sculptor in Cassel . He created two other grave monuments for Waldeck Castle and a monumental grave monument in the Niederwildunger Church in Bad Wildungen for the Counts of Waldeck .

For the Luther Church in Kassel, the churches in Kirchberg , Wichdorf , Trendelburg , Hessisch-Oldenburg (Schauenburg) and Fischborn , he designed grave monuments bearing the monogram A.B. were designated. The signature AB means Andreas Bildschnitzer. A bust in the Kassel old town council room from 1572, however, is mentioned in a document, but is no longer preserved. Two epitaphs of the Kassel Brethren Church come from his workshop. In 1577 he created a coat of arms secured with a monogram on the stair tower in Waldeck Castle . The coat of arms at the Kassel armory and the bust of the Hessian Landgrave Wilhelm IV in the niche with caryatids from 1583 can be assigned to him . The coat of arms at the Elisabeth Hospital from 1587 in Kassel was also attributed to him. The renaissance portal of the Fritzlar wedding house dates back to 1590. For the cemetery in Naumburg he created five coats of arms that have been documented.

Stylistically, Andreas Herber's workshop can find grave monuments and similar monuments in Lauterbach , Schlitz , Fischborn , Büdingen and the like. a. Attribute to O. The dates of death of the grave monuments show his works as works of art from the last third of the 16th century. In addition, he made wooden models for the stove plate production of the Hessian landgraves' ironworks in Lippoldsberg .
