Andreas Osiander the Younger (born May 26, 1562 in Blaubeuren , † April 21, 1617 in Tübingen ) was a German Lutheran theologian and hymn poet.

Life

The son of Lucas Osiander the Elder Ä. studied from 1576 at the University of Tübingen , where he obtained the academic degree of master's degree in philosophy in 1579 . He then became vicar in Vaihingen an der Enz , and later a repetent in Tübingen , where, in addition to his theological studies, he also dealt with astronomy . In 1584 he became a deacon in Urach , in 1587 pastor in Güglingen , in 1590 court preacher in Stuttgart and thus a colleague of his father.

After he received his doctorate in theology in 1592, he was given the general superintendence and prelature of Adelberg in 1598 . In 1605 he became professor of theology, provost at the Tübingen collegiate church and chancellor of the University of Tübingen, which he remained until the end of his life.

Osiander had taken part in some religious conversations; so in 1589 in Baden and 1601 in Regensburg. He also wrote dissertations and disputations on the Book of Concords and polemical works. He published his father's biblia illustrata in 1600, appeared as a hymn poet (three songs are known) and wrote a communion booklet that appeared in Tübingen in 1590.

Osiander was married to Barbara Heiland, the godchild of Martin Crusius , daughter of Samuel Heiland . The marriage resulted in 18 children, of which six sons and two daughters survived the father.
