Andreas Raymond Dombret (born January 16, 1960 in Des Moines , Iowa ) is a German-American economist and bank manager . From 2005 to 2009, he held a leading role at Bank of America . From May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2018, he was a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank . Andreas Dombret has German and American citizenship .

Andreas Dombret, son of bank director Max Raymond Dombret (1925-2012) and the doctor Charlotte Dombret, born Genschow (1924-1996), completed after high school at the Municipal School Ahlen initially trained as a banker at the Dresdner Bank and joined the Westphalian Wilhelms-Universität in Münster, graduated in business administration with a degree in business administration. He received his doctorate from the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen - Nürnberg under Wolfgang Gerke with a thesis on “Takeover bonuses in the context of M&A transactions”. For several years he was a lecturer at the chair for banking and stock exchange.

Andreas Dombret began his career in 1987 at the Deutsche Bank headquarters . He worked ten years at JP Morgan in London and Frankfurt, where he was a member of the management team responsible for looking after German financial institutions. He then worked for four years as co-spokesman for the management and partner at Rothschild in Germany. From 2005 to 2009 he worked for the Bank of America as Vice Chairman Europe responsible and Chief Executive Officer for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In 2009 he was appointed honorary professor at the European Business School (EBS) in Oestrich-Winkel , where he lectures on the financial markets and the current financial market crisis. From May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2018, Andreas Dombret was a member of the board of directors of the Bundesbank and in this function was responsible for the areas of banking and financial supervision, financial stability, statistics, markets, risk controlling and economic education. He was also responsible for the Bundesbank's representative offices abroad. Andreas Dombret was a member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision , the Supreme Supervisory Board of the Single European Banking Supervision Mechanism (SSM) of the European Central Bank and the Financial Stability Committee . He was also chairman of the practice council of the University of the Deutsche Bundesbank.

After leaving the Deutsche Bundesbank at the end of April 2018, Dombret was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel until the end of 2018 and then took on a portfolio of advisory mandates. He advises u. a. the international management consultancy Oliver Wyman, the major Japanese bank Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. (SMBC) and London-based equity research firm Autonomous. He also works as a consultant for the US investment bank Houlihan Lokey and the Hamburg-based FinTech Deposit Solutions and gives lectures at home and abroad. He also teaches as Adjunct Senior Research Scholar at the Faculty of International & Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York.

Honorary positions and memberships

Andreas Dombret is a member of the board of trustees and advisory boards of the Universitätsgesellschaft Münster eV , the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt , the Städel Museum Frankfurt , the Frankfurt Society and the Austrian Banking Society. He is also treasurer of the Atlantik-Brücke and deputy chairman of the Atlantik-Brücke Foundation. Andreas Dombret is a member of the supervisory board of the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT), a member of the board of the Salzburg Global Seminar and co-editor of the magazine for the entire credit industry and a member of the editorial board of the magazines The International Economy and Central Banking. He also supports the Theodor Leifeld Foundation in Ahlen / Westphalia and the Hessische Kulturstiftung in Wiesbaden as a board member. In 2020 he was appointed to the board of trustees of the Alfred Herrhausen Society.

Donation activities

With his private fortune, Andreas Dombret financed the Andreas Dombret Center for Students Initiatives (CSI) at the Economics Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. He also donated a doctoral prize there, which is awarded every year for a dissertation that best combines science and practice. In 2009, Andreas Dombret was awarded the University Medal for his services to promoting the University of Münster.
