Andreas Schellhorn (born April 12, 1761 in Volkach ; † June 26, 1845 in Höchstadt an der Aisch ) was a pastor , poet , lexicographer and linguist.In 1832 he became a member of the state parliament in the Chamber of Deputies in the Bavarian State Assembly.

Andreas Schellhorn was in on April 12, 1761 Office City born Volkach. The Schellhorn family was one of the city's upper-class families. The father Johann Georg Schellhorn was a wine grower, but as a so-called mountain master, overseer for the delivery of the wine tithes , he performed the duties of the city lords of the Würzburg prince-bishop . He died on October 17, 1766, after which his wife Anna Maria remarried.

The young Andreas grew up with his three siblings. One of his brothers, Joseph Michael Schellhorn, later rose as an early knife in Vienna and worked as a writer. Andreas Schellhorn attended the Volkach Latin School under the tutors of Peter Ditzel and Georg Kampensis. In 1774 he moved to Würzburg , where he had received a so-called foundation free table in the Juliusspital . Schellhorn enrolled at the University of Würzburg in the winter semester of 1777/1778 .

In 1781 he entered the Würzburg clerical seminar at the university and attended courses in theology and philosophy, among others with Adam Joseph Onymus and Valentin Joseph Vornberger, who became a role model for Schellhorn. An accident put his spiritual career at risk because a thumb was about to be amputated . However, the doctor Karl Kaspar Siebold managed to prevent the amputation. So Schellhorn was able to receive the minor consecration in 1781.

He was ordained a priest in 1785. After a temporary position in Volkach, he was initially employed as a chaplain in Wiesenfeld near Karlstadt . On January 1, 1791, at Vornberger's instigation, he accepted the position of prefect at the Würzburg Kilians seminar . Here he succeeded in obtaining a doctorate in philosophy around 1791. After a short time in Rottendorf , Schellhorn was appointed high school professor in Würzburg.

On June 26, 1800, Schellhorn was transferred to Höchstadt an der Aisch as pastor of the Georgskirche. In 1804 he was promoted to school inspector, before he became district school inspector in 1809. Later, in 1825, he received the honorary title of clergyman and headed the dean's office in Höchstadt an der Aisch as dean. In 1835, the scientist and member of parliament was awarded the Medal of Honor of the Order of Ludwig . On May 31, 1835 Schellhorn celebrated its 50th anniversary as a priest.

Since 1797 Schellhorn was also active in literature and published not only a dictionary of proverbs but also texts on the relationship between state and church. From August 20, 1832 he was appointed as a member of the Bavarian Estates Assembly in the Obermainkreis / Rezatkreis class IIIa, taking the place of the dismissed Joseph Alois König. In 1834 Schellhorn wanted to leave the meeting of the estates due to illness, but the more serious illness of his substitute Gabriel Knogler prevented this. Andreas Schellhorn died on June 26, 1845 in Höchstadt.
