Andreas Schlick

Andreas "Andi" Schlick (born September 6, 1944 , † April 1972 at Manaslu ) was an Austrian mountaineer .

Career

The mountain guide from Taxenbach started mountaineering in 1963 and completed several first ascents in the Kaiser Mountains , the Stubai Alps , and the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge . He also reached the north faces of Ortler , Westlicher Zinne , Triolet , Piz-Roseg (1st winter ascent) and Liskamm (1st winter ascent). His other successes include the Torstein south intersection, the meat bank pillar , the Laliderer north intersection, the Tofanap pillar and the Fahnenköpfl west face (1st winter ascent). He was also a participant in the Pinzgau Hindu Kush expedition to the Buni-Zom group in 1967 .

In 1972 he was a participant in the Tyrolean Manaslu expedition under Wolfgang Nairz , where Reinhold Messner succeeded in the first ascent of the Manaslu south face. During this undertaking, the mountain guide Franz Jäger disappeared under unexplained circumstances. While searching for him, Andreas Schlick also disappeared under strange circumstances. He is said to have left the protective snow cave at about 7400 m during the darkness and in the middle of a violent storm to look for Franz Jäger or the tent of high camp 4. He was never seen again. In 1975, Spanish mountaineers found two bodies on the summit plateau, but they could not be identified.

Trivia

In the film adaptation of the Frêney tragedy under the title Der Blitz - Inferno am Montblanc , Schlick took on the role of Walter Bonatti . However, he did not live to see the completion of the film.
