Andrei Wladislawowitsch Smirnow ( Russian Андрей Владиславович Смирнов ; born April 11, 1957 in Leningrad , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ; † October 16, 2019 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Soviet- Russian swimmer and Olympic medalist .
At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal Smirnow won a silver medal (4 × 200 m freestyle ; was used in the preliminary) and a bronze medal (400 m medley) behind Rod Strachan and Tim McKee .
At the World Championships in 1975 in the Colombian city of Cali , he won a silver medal (400 m individual medals) behind András Hargitay and a bronze medal (200 m individual medals); He also took 4th place with Vladimir Bure , Andrei Krylow and Georgi Kulikow with a time of 3: 31.89 (relay 4 × 100 m freestyle). In 1973 he finished 8th (400 m individual medley) at the World Cup in the Yugoslav capital of Belgrade. At the European Championships in Vienna in 1974 , he won a bronze medal (400 m individual medley). At the European Championships in 1977 in the Swedish city of Jönköping , he won a silver medal behind his compatriot Serhij Fessenko (400 m medley) and a silver medal behind András Hargitay from Hungary (200 m medley).
In 1975, 1976 and 1977 (200 m) and 1976 (400 m, 4 × 200 m freestyle and 4 × 100 m freestyle) Smirnov was the Soviet champion.
After the end of his career he worked as a swimming trainer. Andrei Smirnov worked from 2007 until his death on October 16, 2019 as the deputy director of a sports school in Kirovskiy Rajon in Saint Petersburg.
