Andri Peer (born December 19, 1921 in Sent ; † June 2, 1985 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss writer .

Life

Andri Peer was born in the Lower Engadine in Switzerland in 1921 . His mother Silva Peer-Wieser was friends with Tina Truog-Saluz . He attended the teacher training college in Chur and studied Romance languages ​​and literatures in Zurich and Paris . He received his doctorate with the dissertation The terminology of the farmhouse in Romanesque leagues . From 1952 he worked as a teacher for French and Italian at the Cantonal School in Winterthur . He was also a lecturer for Romansh language and literature at the University of Zurich . He was a board member of the Romansh and Swiss Writers' Associations and President of the PEN Club of Italian and Romansh Switzerland. Peer published numerous articles on contemporary literature in Romansh, Italian and French for various newspapers and magazines, mainly in German-speaking Switzerland.

Andri Peer began to publish in 1943: in 1945 he published a first story in German Memoirs of a Poacher in the journal Schweizer Spiegel , in 1946 the first collection of poems La trais-cha dal temp and in 1947 the first three stories in Rhaeto-Romanic in the Chasa paterna series . Until 1985, Peer wrote poems exclusively in Romansh, a selection of which he translated into German, Italian and French in collaboration with poets from the respective other languages, including Herbert Meier , Giorgio Orelli and André Imer . He also published stories and individual radio plays in German. Peer also wrote articles for radio and television, and presented his work on various lecture tours at home and abroad. Andri Peer died in Winterthur in 1985. His estate is in the Swiss Literary Archives in Bern . His brother Oscar Peer was a writer, philologist, and middle school teacher.
