Androcorys is a genus in the family of the Orchid Family (Orchidaceae). Ten species of these small, herbaceous plants are native to East Asia. According to R. Govaerts, all species belong to the genus Herminium .

description

To androcorys are perennial herbaceous plants with rounded, hairy tubers as Überdauerungsorganen ( geophytes ). There is one, rarely two leaves on the shoot . The leaf is narrow oval, the base of the leaf includes the stem.

The terminal inflorescence is a raceme . The small flowers are resupinated , yellowish or green in color. The bracts are small, scale-like. The ovary is sessile, spindle-shaped and twisted. The lateral petals and the dorsal sepal form a hood over the flower. The lateral sepals of some species have grown together a little. The petals are smaller than the outer petals. The lip is not lobed, slightly concave to sack-like at the base. The column is short and provided with two lateral appendages, it carries the two-chambered stamen . The two club-shaped pollinia are floury in consistency, sticking together in small pieces. They sit directly on the adhesive disks (Viscidium) without stalks. The separating tissue between the stigma and the stamen is triangular.

distribution

Androcorys is distributed along the southern slopes of the Himalayas to southern China, Androcorys pusillus has a disjoint area that includes Japan and Taiwan. The "Flora of China" lists five species that occur in China, three of which are endemic there.

The species mostly occur in alpine grasslands, at 5500 meters they belong to the orchids with the highest locations.

Systematics and botanical history

Within the orchids, the genus Androcorys is classified in the tribe Orchideae . The boundaries to the closely related genus Herminium , whose boundaries to Peristylus , which are difficult to distinguish from habenaria , are unclear. According to R. Govaerts, all species belong to the genus Herminium .

Androcorys was first described by Rudolf Schlechter in 1919 . The name is derived from the Greek preface ἀνδρό - andro , 'male' and the Greek word κόρυς korys , 'helmet', as the petals are helmet-shaped over the stamen.

The following species are included in the genus Androcorys :
