Andrzej Rżany (born September 26, 1973 in Mielec ) is a former Polish boxer and Olympic competitor from 1992, 2000 and 2004.
During his competitive career he was about 163 cm tall, lived in Dębica and was trained by Leszek Strasburger and Zygmunt Gosiewski. His training facilities were the boxing departments of Igloopol Dębica , Hetmana Kadex Zamość and Gwardia Wrocław.
successes
Andrzej Rżany was Polish junior light flyweight champion in 1990 and 1991 and also won a bronze medal in this weight class at the 1990 European Junior Championships in Czechoslovakia , when he was only eliminated in the semifinals against Ramaz Paliani .
He was also Polish light flyweight champion in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997 and 1998, and Polish flyweight champion in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005. In 1993 and 2004 he won a runner-up title.
In 1992 he started at the Olympic Games in Barcelona , where he lost in the first duel against Rajendra Prasad from India. At the 1995 World Championships in Germany he defeated Nschan Muntschjan, among others, and made it to the quarterfinals, where he was defeated by Daniel Petrow . At the European Championships in Denmark in 1996 , he was stopped in the round of 16 by Pál Lakatos . The 1997 World Championships in Hungary also ended for him in the round of 16 at Valery Sidorenko, after he had previously defeated Suban Punnon.
In 1999 he achieved his greatest success at the World Championships in the USA . By victories against Andrei Alymow, Tae Kim and Alexander Espinoza, he was moved to the semifinals, where he got out with a bronze flyweight medal due to a hand injury. His opponent in the fight for the final would have been Bolat Shumadilow . In 2000 he also took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney and reached the quarter-finals with victories against Celestin Augustin from Madagascar and Arlan Lerio from the Philippines, where he was defeated in the fight for a place in the medal ranks against the Ukrainian Volodymyr Sydorenko . The 2001 World Championships in Northern Ireland resulted in an elimination in the first fight against Jérôme Thomas . By 2002 he had over 230 fights in his record.
In 2004 he won a bronze flyweight medal at the European Championships in Croatia , after he had beaten Fuad Aslanov and was only eliminated in the semifinals against Nikoloz Izoria . He then started at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , where he again made it to the quarter-finals with victorious duels against Bonyx Saweho from Indonesia and Hicham Mesbahi from Morocco. This time he was defeated in the fight for a medal place against Fuad Aslanov with 23:24.
At the EU Championships in Italy in 2005 , he won the silver medal in the flyweight division and still took part in the 2005 World Championships in China , where he failed in the first fight against Atagün Yalçınkaya .
In addition, Andrzej Rżany won international tournaments in Europe, including the Chemistry Cup 1994, as well as the Feliks Stamm Tournament in 1994, 1998, 2001, 2002 and 2005.
