Andy Hurley

Andrew John Hurley (born May 31, 1980 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , United States ) is an American drummer and member of the alternative band Fall Out Boy .

Life

Hurley was raised by his mother, a nurse. His father died when he was five years old. He started out playing the saxophone before studying drums in high school after his sister gave him the albums Ride the Lightning and Van Halen . He describes Dave Lombardo as his greatest influence and Metallica as his favorite band. He was interested in death metal and crossover thrash , shortly afterwards also in hardcore punk and metalcore bands like Earth Crisis . After graduating from high school, he studied anthropology and history at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee . Meanwhile he played in three bands.

Musical career

Hurley initially worked with the groups Project Rocket , an alternative rock band from Chicago, Arma Angelus , The Kill Pill and the metalcore group Racetraitor . He has been a member of Fall Out Boy since their debut album Take This to Your Grave . Since the temporary hiatus from Fall Out Boys, Hurley has been a member of the heavy metal band The Damned Things .

Private

Hurley is a straight edger and a vegan . He believes in anarcho-primitivism .
