Ironiclast is the debut album by the American hard rock / heavy metal band The Damned Things . It was released on December 13, 2010 by Island Records .

Emergence

Over a period of several years, Scott Ian and Joe Trohman wrote numerous songs, which were recorded as a demo in late 2009 . The musicians sent the demo to various record labels and were eventually signed to Island Records . From January 2010 the band started pre-production of the album. Since both Anthrax and Every Time I Die were on tour, the recordings had to be delayed. In total, the recordings, which took place at Metrosonic Studios in New York City, took about two and a half months. Was produced ironiclast by Rob Caggiano , who is also the bass box office. Stephanie Alexander and Tabitha Fair appeared as guest singers . The album was mixed by Nick Raskulinecz , the mastering was done by Dave McNair.

The album title is a play on words made up of the words irony ( English for irony ) and Iconoclast (English for iconoclasm or iconoclasm). Joe Trohman stated in a video that the musicians "would be representative of their main bands and it is quite ironic that these musicians form a band together".

reception

The German magazine Metal Hammer named Ironiclast "Album of the Month". Editor-in-chief Christof Leim described Ironiclast in his review as an album that "sounds contemporary and timeless at the same time, but above all is powerful, grippy and thrilling" and has everything that "great heavy rock should have". Drew Berringer of online magazine Absolute Punk wrote that The Damned Things always sound best when they mix their own styles into a delicate cocktail . For the "modern classic rock album" she gave a rating of 92%. Kirk Miller of the online magazine Metromix , however, wrote that the album was "not original" but, well between Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath on a classic rock - radio station might run.

In its first week of sales, 6,200 albums were sold in the United States. The album reached number one on the Heatseekers chart , which includes artists who have never been placed in the top hundred of the US album charts with an album .
