Andrew "Andy" Schneider (* 31 July 1981 in Grand Forks , North Dakota ) is a retired American ice hockey player and current - scout , who during his playing career, among others, at the Adler Mannheim and Iserlohn Roosters of the German Ice Hockey League play Has.

Career

Andy Schneider played from 1998 for three years with the Lincoln Stars in the US junior league United States Hockey League . There he won the Anderson Cup twice . In the 2001 NHL Entry Draft , the Pittsburgh Penguins selected him in the fifth round in 156th place. He then moved to the University of North Dakota , for which he went on the ice during his four years of college in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .

After completing his studies, the left-handed shooter signed a contract with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , the farm team of the Pittsburgh Penguins from the American Hockey League . There he scored 16 points in 50 games and also played four games in the ECHL for the Wheeling Nailers , who are also a farm team of the Penguins. The 2007/08 season spent Schneider at the Portland Pirates . The next season he started with the Toronto Marlies and finally moved to Germany in January 2009, where he was signed by Adler Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League .

For the 2009/10 season he moved, also on the recommendation of Teal Fowler , to the Iserlohn Roosters to stabilize the defensive there. At the side of first Stefan Langwieder , later Jon Insana , this also succeeded, in the first half of the season only four teams conceded fewer goals. Schneider scored his first DEL goal in December 2009 in the game against the Kölner Haie . In the final phase of the season he sat in some games as a surplus contingent player in the stands, his contract was not extended.

In November 2010 Schneider returned to the Lincoln Stars in the United States Hockey League, where he started his career. There he became an assistant coach under Chad Johnson . The Canadian has been working as an amateur scout for the NHL team Columbus Blue Jackets since the 2012/13 season .
