Anja Kloeckner

Anja Klöckner (* 1968 ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Anja Klöckner studied Classical Archeology and Classical Philology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München . In 1994 he completed his doctorate in Bonn with a thesis on the subject of Poseidon and Neptune. On the reception of Greek images of gods in Roman art . In 1995 Klöckner first became a research assistant and later a research assistant at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken . In 2002/03 she was a fellow of the German Research Foundation at the Athens Department of the German Archaeological Institute . The habilitation took place in 2004 with the work Images of the Invisible. Greek consecration reliefs as a media of religious communication . Klöckner then became senior assistant and private lecturer in Saarbrücken. After she represented the Chair of Classical Archeology at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald in 2005/06 and was Visiting Scholar at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles from January to March 2007 , Klöckner taught from April 1, 2007 to March 31 2016 as Professor of Classical Archeology at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . On April 1, 2016, she accepted a call to the W3 professorship for Classical Archeology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In the 2019/2020 academic year she is a Senior Fellow at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald.

Klöckner is primarily concerned with the visual media of antiquity , Greek and Roman sepulchral culture, sacred spaces and their aestheticization, as well as Greek consecration reliefs .
