Anna Maria Anders

Anna Maria Anders (born November 22, 1950 in London ) is a Polish politician . In 2016 she was in the IX. Senate of the Republic of Poland elected; there she is a member of the Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) parliamentary group . From 2016 to 2019, she was State Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, and she was Commissioner for International Dialogue. Since 2019 she is the ambassador to Italy .

Anna Maria Anders is the daughter of Lieutenant General and Commander of the 2 Korpus Polski Władysław Anders (1892–1970) and the actress and singer Irena Anders (1920–2010) known by her stage name Renata Bogdańska . Anders was born in London, where her parents lived in exile after the end of the Second World War . Since 1986 she was married to the United States Army Colonel Robert Alexander Costa (1934-2007); from the marriage comes a son, Robert Wladyslaw Costa, who also works in the United States Army.

In the United Kingdom , she studied Romance studies at the University of Bristol , graduating in 1973. She then worked as an account manager for a PR and advertising company in the City of London . At the end of the 1970s she moved to Paris , where she worked for the UNESCO press office (1978/79) and for the Rezayat Group in the 1980s . In the 1990s she settled in the United States , where she earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Boston University in 1992 and then worked in the real estate market. After her mother's death, she became more involved in the Wspólnota Andersa Foundation , which supports Polish war veterans and Poles abroad .

In the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2015 , Anders ran for the IX. Electoral term of the Senate of the Republic of Poland for the electoral committee KW Prawo i Sprawiedliwość in constituency No. 44 . She was only just defeated by 40.76% of the valid votes cast against the incumbent Senator for this constituency Barbara Borys-Damięcka ( KW Platforma Obywatelska RP , 43.41%). After Bohdan Józef Paszkowski was appointed voivode of the Podlaskie Voivodeship in December 2015 , the Senate mandate he had won in constituency no. 59 expired . Anders again applied for the electoral committee KW Prawo i Sprawiedliwość and reached on March 6, 2016 in the by-elections in constituency No. 59 with 47.26% of the valid votes cast before Mieczysław Bagiński ( KW Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe , 41.03%) and four other candidates take their place in the Senate. She was a member of the Prawo i Sprawiedliwość parliamentary group in the Committee on Emigration Matters and Contacts with Poles abroad.

In January 2016, Anders was appointed as the successor to the late Władysław Bartoszewski in the position of State Secretary as Plenipotentiary for International Dialogue and Chair of the Council for the Preservation of Remembrance of Struggle and Martyrdom . She only held the latter position until March 2016, when Beata Szydło dissolved the council.

Anna Maria Anders is not a member of any political party .

Honors

For her services to the Polish veterans in the United Kingdom and for publicizing the services of the 2 Korpus Polski, Anna Maria Anders received the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland from the President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski in 2014 . In 2015 she received the Badge of Honor of the Związek Sybiraków (Siberian Association) and was made an honorary member of the Związek Oficerów Rezerwy Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej (Union of Reserve Officers of the Republic of Poland). In 2016 she received the King Jan III Sobieski Award from the Nowodworski Foundation and in November 2018 the medal “100. Anniversary of the Establishment of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces ” .
