Annaka ( Japanese 安中市 , - shi ) is a city in Gunma Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .

Annaka is north of Tomioka and west of Takasaki .

history

Annaka is an old castle town . A branch of the Itakura with an income of 20,000 koku last resided at the castle . Annaka was also a post office ( 宿場町Shukuba-machi ) on the Nakasendō during the Edo period.
