The midwife Anna Marek wants to go on vacation with her daughters Jana and Mia. But then her neighbor Lukas Sturm rings, because his girlfriend Maria unexpectedly goes into labor. Exhausted from the stress of the day, she drives to Italy in the late evening hours later than planned.
The next day Anna does not wake up in Italy, but in her apartment. Lukas Sturm rings the doorbell again because his girlfriend Maria is having a child. It quickly turns out that Anna is reliving the day before. And after a while she realizes that she has gotten into a time warp. Over time, she begins to use the events for herself: She overdoes her account excessively, indulges herself in a life of luxury at the expense of others and tries with the attractive Dr. Having sex in Bremen, which she fails, however. When she realizes that no psychologist can help her either, she commits suicide, which does not lead to the end of the nightmare.
Eventually she develops feelings for Lukas. And she realizes that Maria is only a friend of her neighbor, not his partner. Now she tries by all means to win Lukas as a friend. And she notices that he is a sad widower who plays in a band. But then she realizes that she can never do that with her selfish nature, and that more compassion and friendliness towards other people could be a way out. In fact, everyone is now positively surprised by her when she no longer acts self-centeredly but is compassionate. Lukas is also persuaded and goes to Italy with Anna. In the last scene, Anna wakes up in Italy - the nightmare is over.
