Anne Panther (born June 18, 1982 in Schwerin ) is a German basketball referee licensed by the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA). After Silvia Otto and Petra Kremer, she is the third referee in the top German division, the basketball league . In addition to her, Danjana Rey is another woman whistling games in the BBL. She is the only German referee who is also allowed to lead international games.

Life

At the age of 13, Panther started playing streetball . From the “German Streetball Tour” to the German championships, she took part in tournaments. She later went to a basketball club.

At Schweriner SC she played, among other things, in the 2nd women's basketball league . She acquired her first referee license (D license) at the age of 15. 2 years later, she received the C license, which allowed her to lead games from the Oberliga to the Regionalliga . She was a German streetball champion.

On April 5, 2009, she led her first game in the basketball Bundesliga , in 2011 she was appointed to the senior squad and has been officially whistling Bundesliga games ever since. In 2012 she acquired a referee license from FIBA , with which she is also allowed to whistle international games, and was the first female referee to serve as crew chief at the Albert Schweitzer tournament . In 2016 she was nominated as one of only five women as referee for the Summer Olympics . She is registered as a referee for the TG Sandhausen . In 2016 she ended her playing career in the second team of USC Heidelberg to avoid injuries. Since 2016 she has also been leading games in the EuroLeague , the top European division for men. In 2019 Panther was nominated as one of eight referees to whistle at the Final Four of the EuroLeague. She is the first woman to act as a referee in this tournament.

Panther works in the management of the Heidelberg University Hospital .
