Annelore Nitschke

Annelore Nitschke (born Wegener, born January 31, 1944 in Bernburg (Saale) ) is a German literary translator .

Life

Annelore Nitschke lived in the western sector of Berlin from 1949 in Munich , where she graduated from high school in 1963. She completed her studies in German and Slavic studies in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1969 with a master's degree . In 1978 she passed the state examination for translators in the Russian language externally and has since worked as a freelance translator for Russian. She mainly translates contemporary literature and factual texts for exhibition catalogs in the field of art and culture. But there are also two new translations of the classics Tolstoy and Turgenev . For more than 20 years she has accompanied the artists Gia Edzgveradze and Ilya Kabakov as a translator in numerous publications. In the course of 40 years she has translated or co-translated around seventy books for well-known German publishers.

In 1998 she received the Hilde Domin Prize for Literature in Exile together with her main author Boris Chasanow . She was a member of the jury that decides on the award of the Free State of Bavaria's translation grant . As part of the Bode scholarship from the German Translation Fund , she regularly mentors young colleagues.
