Antônio Ferreira Viçoso

Antônio Ferreira Viçoso CM (born May 13, 1787 in Peniche , Portugal , † July 7, 1875 in Mariana , Minas Gerais ) was a Portuguese religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Mariana in Brazil.

Life

Antônio Ferreira Viçoso joined the Congregation of the Vincentians at and received on March 7, 1818 sacrament of Holy Orders .

On July 15, 1843, he was appointed Bishop of Mariana. Pope Gregory XVI confirmed the appointment on January 22 of the following year. On May 5, 1844, the bishop of Rio de Janeiro , Manoel de Monte Rodrigues de Araújo , gave him episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were Pedro de Santa Mariana e Souza OCD , auxiliary bishop in Rio de Janeiro, and José Affonso de Moraes Torres CM, bishop of Belém do Pará .

In the process of beatification initiated for him, Pope Francis awarded him the heroic degree of virtue on July 8, 2014 .
