Anthony Teuma

Anthony Teuma (born January 11, 1964 in Xagħra on Gozo ) is a Maltese Roman Catholic clergyman and Bishop of Gozo .

Life

Anthony Teuma attended the Small Seminary of the Diocese of Gozo and then studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at the Gozo Seminary . On June 25, 1988, he received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Gozo. Teuma was at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome in the subject Educational Sciences PhD .

After ordination and his doctorate, Anthony Teuma initially stayed in Rome, where he was parish vicar in the parish of Sant'Ignazio di Antioch from 1988 to 1995 . In 1995 he became Spiritual at the Pontifical Roman Seminary and in 1996 also Spiritual Assistant to the Eucharistic Communities in the Diocese of Rome . In 1997 Teuma returned to his homeland and became Regens of the seminary of the Diocese of Gozo as well as a member of the college of consultors , the council of priests and the diocesan pastoral council . After Anthony Teuma completed a sabbatical and academic year in the Holy Land in 2007, he became spiritual assistant and responsible for the Eucharistic Communities in the Diocese of Gozo. Since 2016 Teuma was the episcopal delegate for the family and responsible for the John Paul II Family Institute on Gozo.

On June 17, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Gozo. The Pro-Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops , Curia Bishop Mario Grech , donated to him on August 21 of that year in the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Xewkija the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Malta , Charles Scicluna , and the Apostolic Nuncio in Malta, Archbishop Alessandro D'Errico .
