occupation

Antimarteria is a 2017 film by Specter Berlin , which Specter created in collaboration with rapper Marteria to accompany his album Roswell , which was released almost at the same time .

action

In South Africa. Marteria and his homies pitch their tents in the Cape Town area to have fun and celebrate his birthday. Elven dust is the most expensive drug on planet earth, even more valuable than cocaine and gold combined, which is why human-like beings with ivory-like teeth are hunted in search of elven dust. Some immoral people trade in it anyway, according to the dealer Baron Bronte and his gang. Brontes elf dust, however, comes from humans, which Marteria is said to be fatal.

At the end of the film there is a cryptic warning: “The whole universe is in each of us. We are the hate, the poverty and the fat party. [...] We are the perpetrators, unscrupulous, selfish. We are the victims [...] With our raid we started the great fire and burned the phoenix. Our suicide is in full swing. But we are not only the problem, we are also the solution. "

production

Staff and idea

Directed by Specter Berlin . The film was made in collaboration with the singer Marteria to accompany his album Roswell, which was released almost at the same time . With the former founder of Aggro Berlin and today's director of music videos, Marteria had previously shot the video for Das Geld muss Weg in Africa . The music used in the film was taken from Marteria's Roswell album . Antimarteria switches to comic or infrared mode when the battle scenes get too brutal.

In an interview with szenerostock.de Marteria said that the idea came from the song Elfenbein , after which he met with Specter: “We sat for hours and at some point realized that there was more to it than a music video. That you can make a real film out of it. And next to the music video there is now a really awesome film. Who reveals a lot about the record and about me, also shows the dark sides of this world. That was a totally intense and exciting time. ”Marten made it clear in advance how important and significant this project was for him and how much love there was in it. Marteria herself describes Antimarteria as a film full of metaphors and similes, full of references to pop culture and Greek mythology, but his personal story and science fiction also played a role in the film, according to the singer.

Cast and filming

The film shows Marten Lacinys aka Marterias Alter Ego Marsimoto. Inge Dippenaar can be seen in another leading role in the role of a mysterious child who was already known from the album's artwork. Frederick Lau and the photographer Paul Ripke play Marterias Dudes. Other roles were cast with Emilia Schüle , Miss Platnum , Trystan Pütter , Sascha Alexander Gersak and Axel Roschlock .

Armin Franzen acted as cameraman . The film was shot over several weeks in South Africa.

Marketing and Publishing

A teaser trailer for the film was released at the end of May 2017. On June 7, 2017, almost two weeks after the release of the new album Roswell , the film celebrated its premiere at the Kino International in Berlin. After the premiere, the film was freely accessible on the Internet.

reception

In laut.de it is, the colorful and pompous play of colors that captures the director for Antimarteria, just be great cinema: "The impressive landscape images and insights into the townships . Of South Africa are well worth seeing" In addition to the images is especially the music characteristic, but that is not annoying, although it is clearly the purest advertising event, according to laut.de , and individual Roswell songs only really come into their own through the film: “With the help of the visual support, you can understand much better what Marten is doing must have thought of special songs. This is particularly evident with ivory or blue marlin . A few more dialogues would not have hurt the flick on the other side either. "

Because the focus of the film is clearly on the music and the images, according to Uli Rich from 16bars.de , you sometimes have the feeling of watching an incredibly elaborately produced music video with excess length. Rich also notes that many of the tracks on the album make even more sense through the visualization of the film than on the record. Rich thinks that because of the omnipresent alien theme, fans of Martens alter ego Marsimoto, who also has a role in the film, should get their money's worth: “Everyone who wants to beam themselves into another world for the 57 minute running time and to freak out of her life, the film is also recommended. "

Anna Woller from Radio Fritz explains that despite the length of the feature film, Antimarteria is not a real feature film, as it does not reveal a clear plot or dramaturgy, but rather a drug made of mysterious ivory powder and the associated trip. Woller explains: “ Antimarteria is more, let's say, an illustrated carpet of sound with a lot of Marteria music. Anyone who knows the music videos for Das Geld muss weg und Aliens will find the film very familiar. The film wants to be a kind of modern fairy tale, takes place in a township in Africa and in the desert. In terms of the story, however, only fragments can be recognized. "
