Anton Abraham von Steinkeller (* 1714 in Krügersdorf ; † June 2, 1781 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general , commander of Berlin and knight of the Pour le Mérite as well as governor of Schlanstedt and Oschersleben .

Life

Anton Abraham was the son of the heir of Krügersdorf and Görsdorf, Christian Ernst von Steinkeller († December 18, 1736) and Anna Magarethe, born von Ruits († December 2, 1752). His mother was the sister of General Erdmann Ernst von Rüitz .

Military career

Steinkeller was from 1738 ensign in the body regiment on foot of King Friedrich Wilhelm I. After the army reform of 1740, he stayed with the regiment , but then joined the Guard Grenadier Battalion "Rohdig" No. 6. In 1745 he fought as a lieutenant in the battle of Soor , where he was also wounded. After the war, Steinkeller received its own company in 1750 . In the Seven Years' War , he was in 1757 Major , 1760 Lieutenant Colonel and the following year Colonel . On November 25, 1763 he received the administration of Schlanstedt and Oschersleben. In December 1764 he was appointed chief of the "Linden" No. 26 Infantry Regiment . On May 26, 1766, he was promoted to major general. In 1771 Steinkeller was inspector of the Märkische infantry.

In December 1774 he became the commandant of Berlin. When the War of the Bavarian Succession broke out, he was no longer physically able to follow the army. Therefore, Steinkeller was dismissed by the king, but was allowed to keep the position as commandant of Berlin. He died unmarried on June 2, 1781 in Berlin and was buried on June 3, 1781 in the garrison church.

He received the order Pour le Mérite in the battle of Torgau .
