Erdmann Ernst von Rüitz (born August 9, 1693 in Trebitz ; † December 27, 1756 in Birkholz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of Dragoon Regiment No. 7 and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

His father was the Brandenburg lieutenant of the cavalry in the "Strantz" regiment Christoph Lorenz von Rüitz (* June 1, 1653, † October 12, 1710) and his wife Margarethe, born von Steinkeller from the Krügersdorf house († March 19, 1721).

Military career

Rüitz was brought up by private tutors and in 1707 came to the court of King Friedrich I as a page . In 1710 he was employed in the “von Pannewitz” dragoon regiment of the Prussian army . He fought with the regiment in Flanders and Brabant. When King Friedrich Wilhelm I ascended the throne, Rüitz was appointed ensign and in 1714 transferred to the Gensdarmes . During the Pomeranian campaign in 1715/16 he was adjutant general to General Natzmer . In 1718 he became staff assistant master . Two years later he rose as captain to squadron chief in the grenadier regiment on horse No. 3 under Derflinger . On September 13, 1729 Rüitz was promoted to major .

During the First Silesian War he was appointed lieutenant colonel in February 1741 . The regiment took part in the capture of Brieg. During the Battle of Mollwitz , he fought with the regiment under Schulenburg , fell on his horse and was only able to escape with a few difficulties. After the battle there was a reorganization and the regiment was divided. Rüitz remained in the Dragoon Regiment No. 3 under Rothenburg . On May 17, 1742 he fought with the regiment in the battle of Chotusitz . He then became a colonel and regimental commander. As such, he fought in the siege and conquest of Prague in 1744 and in the battle of Hohenfriedberg in 1745 . On July 20, 1745 he was named major general by patent from November 27, 1743 . On September 30, 1745, his regiment commanded on the right wing in the rear meeting in the Battle of Thrush . Rüitz was rewarded with the order Pour le Mérite. In addition, the king appointed him on December 26, 1745 chief of the dragoon regiment "Roëll" No. 7. On September 12, 1753 he became lieutenant general, but because of his age he asked for his resignation, which he received with a pension .

He retired to his estate in Birkholz and died there unmarried at the end of 1756.
