Anton Krettner (born March 2, 1849 in Munich , † November 27, 1899 in Bad Tölz ) was a Bavarian composer , musician , lawyer and mayor of Tölz. His best-known work is the Tölzer Schützenmarsch .

Life

Krettner, who came from a modest background as the son of a Munich locksmith , was born in Munich's Dultgasse. He attended Wilhelmsgymnasium until his Abitur in 1868 and then struggled to find his way through as a law student . In the " Black Student Union " Krettner played the zither , piano and theater , sang, wrote and composed. During one of his many trips to Tölz and the Isarwinkel in 1872, he got the position of tutor to Bruckbräus' widow, Babette Lettinger, whom he married the following year.

The versatile educated and honest man who owned a considerable private library was not only highly regarded as a composer. He was a co-founder of the “Liedertafel”, the “Kur- und Orchesterverein”, the “Tölzer Section of the German-Austrian Alpine Club ” and the “Historical Association for the Oberland”. In February 1899 - the last year of his life - he was elected mayor of the city. After his death on November 27th, Krettner's urn was buried in the Tölzer Waldfriedhof.

Portraits ( oil paintings and photos) are in the Bad Tölz Local History Museum. He is also remembered by memorial plaques on the former Bruckbräu (Amortplatz), on the Franciscan Church and a bust in the forest cemetery and in the Gabriel-von-Seidl-Kurpark. In addition, the Krettnerweg was named after him.

obituary

The local poet Wilhelm Dusch , who was born in Tölz , gave him a memorial in the following poem:

Obituary for Anton Krettner

“In the beautiful Isarthal there is a
lively bang!”
Dös ko 'ma hear'n no' far and wide,
As long as Tölzer Schütz'n goes
And no 'a zither sounds lusti,
To the ma' merry Liada sings!
Do 'in the joy' there si 'pain mixes,
And sadly it agrees with us g'müat and heart, soon it comes to
our memory
that whoever has the zither o' tuned,
From the world has to go 'n.
He must be dead! As often as
his tones and songs greet us,
so often he lives anew.
And our consolation is drowsy before everyone,
be "Schütz'nmarsch", be "Zwiese'lalm",
Dö klinga away again.
Far into the most distant place.
With its sound,
Krettner, your name will be heard anew as often as you can !
