Antonio Francesco Sanvitale (born February 10, 1660 in Parma , † February 17, 1714 in Urbino ) was an Italian cardinal and archbishop of Urbino .

Life

He was the son of Luigi Sanvitale and his second wife Margherita Talenti. Sanvitale began his education at the University of Parma before entering the Collegio Clementino in Rome in 1676 to study philosophy and theology . In 1682 he returned to his hometown, where he is studying law devoted, and was on June 27, 1684 for Doctor iuris utriusque doctorate . After receiving the sacrament of ordination in Parma and working for Cardinal Rinaldo d'Este for some time , Bishop Tommaso Saladino appointed him censor of books in the diocese of Parma . Back in Rome, he took on numerous tasks in the Roman Curia , for example in the apostolic signature . Sanvitale became a canon in St. Peter's Basilica in 1698 , and from June 1, 1703 he was vice delegate in Avignon . On July 16, 1703 he was named titular archbishop of Ephesus . He was ordained bishop on July 22nd, 1703 by Cardinal Fabrizio Paolucci .

Antonio Sanvitale became Assessor of the Congregation for the Roman and General Inquisition in 1706 . On April 6, 1709 he was appointed Archbishop of Urbino. Pope Clement XI. elevated him to cardinal in the consistory of April 25, 1709 in pectore . This was published on July 22, 1709, on September 9, 1709 the titular church of San Pietro in Montorio was assigned to him.

Cardinal Antonio Francesco Sanvitale died on February 17, 1714 in the Archbishop's Palace of Urbino and found his final resting place in the cathedral there .
