Antonio García y García

Antonio García y García (born October 23, 1880 in Bullas , † May 15, 1953 in Valladolid ) was a Spanish Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop of Valladolid .

Life

At the Roman Gregorian University he obtained doctoral degrees in philosophy, theology and canon law . From 1911 he was a penitentiary of the Diocese of Malaga . In 1919 he became Vicar General of the Diocese of Ávila , from 1923 to 1924 he was Vicar General in the Diocese of Madrid .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on February 5, 1930 Bishop of Túy . He was ordained bishop on May 25, 1930 by the Apostolic Nuncio in Spain , Archbishop Federico Tedeschini ; Co- consecrators were Francisco Frutos y Valiente , Bishop of Salamanca , and Manuel González y García , Bishop of Málaga . On February 4, 1938, he was made Archbishop of Valladolid.

Antonio García y García died after almost 23 years in the episcopate and was buried in the cathedral of Valladolid .

Services

As Archbishop Antonio García y García made a contribution to the expansion of the cathedral of Valladolid. He had a “monument of the Spanish-speaking countries for the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary” erected according to a design by the architect Antonio Palacios . He also had the cathedral completed with a Way of the Cross and a chapel based on the original designs by Juan de Herrera .
