Antonio Lucibello

Antonio Lucibello (born February 25, 1942 in Spezzano Albanese , Calabria , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and diplomat emeritus of the Holy See .

Life

Antonio Lucibello was ordained a priest on July 23, 1967 and, after completing his training at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy, joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1971. Lucibello served in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Panama , Ethiopia , Haiti , Argentina , Zaire , Yugoslavia , Greece and Ireland . The doctor of canon law has headed the Foreign Service of the Holy See since 1973.

In 1995 Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of Thurio and Apostolic Nuncio in Gambia , Guinea and Liberia . He was ordained bishop by Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano on November 4, 1995; Co-consecrators was Josip Uhač , secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , as well as head of the Pontifical Commission for Mission questions and Andrea Cassone , Archbishop of Rossano-Cariati . In 1996, he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Sierra Leone .

In 1999 he became apostolic nuncio in Paraguay . During his tenure, among other things, he dealt with two acknowledgments of paternity by the President of Paraguay, Fernando Lugo, who resigned as bishop in 2004 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on August 27, 2005 to the Apostolic Nuncio in Turkey and Turkmenistan . This activity ended with the appointment of his successor Paul Fitzpatrick Russell on March 19, 2016.
