Antonius van der Pas

Antonius van der Pas (born September 24, 1920 in Angermund ; † January 15, 2008 ) was an artist of Dutch origin.

life and work

Antonius was one of the two children of the Dutchman Anton van der Pas and a German. He spent his childhood and youth in Duisburg - Großenbaum , in 1932 the family moved to Nijmwegen . Van der Pas was trained there as a commercial artist after completing his school career . During the years 1935–1938 his artistic talent was promoted through drawing lessons. In the following years the family found a new place of residence in Düsseldorf . Until the end of the Second World War , Van der Pas worked, among other things, in the printing works of the Düsseldorf company Henkel . During an incident in September 1943, van der Pas came into conflict with the National Socialist regime when he was picked up by the SS and interned for one night during a trip to Aachen that was illegal due to his status as a foreigner . After the Second World War he began studying art at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and was trained by Wilhelm Schmurr , Werner Heuser and Otto Coester , among others .

In 1949 he went on study trips to Paris, where he met influential painters of the time with Georges Braque , Pierre Bonnard and Pablo Picasso . 1950 followed study trips to Spain, 1952-1953 finally a longer stay in Granada , during which he met his future wife Conchita Gonzalez-Munoz. His wife died in 1975.

During the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s study trips took him to Japan , Sri Lanka , India , Indonesia , Bali , Thailand , Burma , the USA , France , Egypt , Turkey , Cyprus , Spain , Morocco , Tunisia and Scandinavia , England , Ireland , the People's Republic of China , Russia and Austria .

In 1983 he set up a studio in Mettmann . He died on January 15, 2008.

Van der Pas had numerous exhibitions . His works are exhibited in major German art museums , including the Kunstmuseum Bonn , the Kunsthalle Bremen , the Deutsche Bank Collection , Frankfurt and the Museum Kunstpalast , Düsseldorf.
