Unemployment in Namibia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The data on unemployment in Namibia are collected every two years by the Namibia Statistics Agency , the state statistical office . Namibia , located in southern Africa , has had to struggle with high unemployment even after its independence in 1990 . To a large extent, this is due to the lack of training in large sections of the population. Historically, this is based on the apartheid system under South African rule and the associated oppression of the Namibian majority population.

As a job creation measure, the Namibian government launched the Targeted Intervention Program for Employment and Economic Growth in 2011 . The aim is to create 104,000 jobs with a financial investment of 14.7 billion Namibian dollars .
