Archibald Edwin Deitz

Archibald Edwin Deitz (also Archibald E. Deitz , born October 27, 1869 in Berne , Albany County , New York , United States , † November 14, 1965 in Jersey City , Hudson County , New Jersey , United States) was an American Lutheran theologian .

Life

Family and education

Archibald Edwin Deitz, son of Charles Edwin Deitz and Laura Jane Ludden Deitz, graduated from Hartwick Seminary in Oneonta , New York , in 1886 . He then studied theology there for two years before continuing his studies at Gettysburg Seminary in Gettysburg , Pennsylvania , which he graduated in 1892.

Archibald Edwin Deitz married on October 18, 1893 with Caroline W. Secor, who died on December 18, 1907. The relationship resulted in the sons Vernon and Harlan. On August 3, 1919, he married Marie Barbara Lederle for the second time. Archibald Edwin Deitz died in November 1965, three weeks after he had turned 96, in the Lutheran Home in Jersey City.

Professional background

Archibald Edwin Deitz was ordained in the pastoral ministry of the United Lutheran Church in America in 1892 . Dietz subsequently held pastoral positions from 1892 to 1898 in Rhinebeck , New York, from 1899 to 1904 in the town of Poestenkill, New York, from 1904 to 1908 in Riverside , California , from 1908 to 1911 in Ponca, Nebraska , from 1912 to 1920 in Jersey City, New Jersey, at Hartwick Seminary from 1920 to 1924, in New York City from 1924 to 1928, and most recently in Bellmore, Long Island , New York from 1928 to 1931 .

Archibald Edwin Deitz worked at Hartwick Seminary from 1920 to 1924 as Professor of Systematic Theology and New Testament Exegesis and from 1930 to 1941 as Professor of Systematic Theology. From 1943 to 1945 he was a lecturer in dogmatics at the Philadelphia Lutheran Theological Seminary. He emerged in particular as the author of several papers relating to his field. Hartwick Seminary awarded him the Doctor of Divinity (DD) in 1916 .
